OLD MILL COTTAGE

I had lunch today at The Old Mill Cottage a simple modest building in the back streets of Suva, what makes it a most enjoyable place to have lunch is the light. An extended eave over a wide verandah makes for a large open well-shaded space. All around the verandah and right up to the edge is planted danidani to a height of about 2 metres. The planting creates a great little private zone separated from the street. But it is the sunlight reflected of the danidani that gives this shady verandah a wonderfully refreshing green glow. A pretty simple concept really, privacy, cooling breeze and soft lighting, no need for fancy finishes here.
